Preparing for 2027

Preparing a field sales team for 2027 means getting four things in place before January: one governed content library, content that works with no signal on every device reps carry, CRM records that show what each customer actually saw, and a platform decision you can defend at renewal. Most of the work happens in the fourth quarter, while budgets and contracts are still open.

This is not a forecast of the economy or a list of sales trends. It is a planning checklist for sales, marketing and enablement leaders whose reps meet customers in person, often in hospitals, plants and customer sites where the network can’t be trusted.

What changed in 2026 that matters for 2027 planning

Three shifts from this year should shape next year’s plan.

AI made content cheap to produce and harder to control

Marketing teams can now produce decks, one-pagers and email copy in hours instead of weeks. That’s useful. It also means more versions of more files are moving toward the field, and in regulated industries every one of them needs an approval trail. The bottleneck moved from creating content to governing it.

The enablement market consolidated

Seismic completed its merger with Highspot in August 2026, and Vector Capital combined Showpad and Bigtincan in 2025. If one of those platforms is up for renewal in 2027, you are renewing with a different company than the one you signed with. That is a reason to ask questions before you sign again. Our platform comparison lays out the ownership changes and what to ask.

Buyers started their research in AI assistants

More buyers now ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity for a shortlist before they ever visit a vendor site. For a field team, that means the first impression of your product may come from an AI answer. Reps walk into meetings with buyers who already have opinions, so the content on the rep’s device has to be current, specific and easy to find in the moment.

The 2027 field readiness checklist

Work through this list in the fourth quarter. Each item is something you can check in an afternoon.

  1. Count your content libraries. Shared drives, email attachments, a CRM files tab and a legacy portal all count. The goal for 2027 is one approved source.
  2. Find the files that should have expired. Search for anything with last year’s pricing, an old claim or a retired product. If you find them on rep devices, your expiry process isn’t working.
  3. Run the airplane mode test. Put a phone, a tablet and a Windows laptop in airplane mode and present your three most important decks on each.
  4. Open five CRM meeting records from last month. Can you see which content was presented, or only that a meeting happened?
  5. Pull usage data for your top 20 assets. Which ones do reps actually present, and which ones nobody opens?
  6. List every AI tool that touches customer-facing content, and who approves its output before it reaches the field.
  7. Check renewal dates and ownership for every enablement and content tool. Note any vendor that changed hands this year.
  8. Plan onboarding for new hires and territory changes, so a new rep has the right content on day one and a departing rep loses access the same day.

How 2027 priorities compare with what most teams did in 2026

Area Common 2026 approach What to aim for in 2027
Content source Several libraries, reps keep local copies One approved library pushed to devices by group
Version control Email announcements asking reps to delete old files Approval windows and expiry that apply on the device, even offline
Offline use Reps download files manually before trips Content already on every device, with sync on reconnect
CRM records “Meeting held” with no content attached Presented content written to the CRM record automatically
Content measurement Downloads and opens Page-level presentation data and a list of unused content
AI-generated content Ad hoc, reviewed when someone remembers Same approval path as every other customer-facing file

Why offline still decides the meeting

Connectivity keeps improving, but the rooms that matter haven’t changed. Hospital basements, operating rooms, plant floors, trade show halls and secure customer sites still block or throttle connections. A rep who can’t open the deck there loses the meeting, or falls back to an old PDF.

Plan for every device your reps actually carry. Many manufacturing, distribution and financial services reps sell from Windows laptops, not iPads. Our page on sales enablement for Windows laptops and tablets covers what to check.

Make the CRM show what the customer saw

Most CRMs record that a meeting happened. Few record what was presented. In 2027 that gap matters more, because leadership will ask which content helps close deals and compliance will ask what each customer was shown.

The fix is to log presented content as part of the meeting, not as a separate step reps have to remember. If reps can do it offline and on any device, they will actually do it. See how the vablet Salesforce integration handles this.

Use content data to decide what to cut

Usage data is most useful when it removes work. Before planning 2027 content, look at which assets reps presented this year and for how long, and which ones nobody used. Retire the unused files and put the effort into the ones that get shown. Our guide to presentation and meeting analytics lists the data points worth tracking.

Where vablet fits

vablet is a mobile-first sales enablement platform for field teams in life sciences, medical device, manufacturing and other regulated industries. Content is assigned by group, with approval windows and automatic expiry that still apply offline. Access can be revoked remotely and restricted to specific devices. Reps present on iPad, iPhone, Android and Windows with no connection, and updates and usage data sync when the device reconnects.

vablet integrates with Salesforce and SAP. A team can be live in a day if it needs to be, and most teams are fully rolled out within weeks. Pricing is published at $25 per user per month MSRP, with no implementation fee. If you are mid-contract with another platform, the vablet Switch Program explains how teams move over.

vablet is not a call-coaching or conversation-intelligence tool, and it is not a sales engagement tool for email sequences. If your team sells entirely over video calls and never presents in person, a connected-first platform may suit you better.

Frequently asked questions

How should sales leaders prepare field teams for 2027?

Sales leaders should use the fourth quarter of 2026 to consolidate content into one approved library, test that content works offline on every device reps carry, make sure CRM records show which content was presented, and review renewal dates and ownership for every enablement tool before 2027 budgets close.

What is the biggest content risk for field sales teams in 2027?

The biggest content risk for field sales teams in 2027 is outdated or unapproved material reaching customers. AI tools make it faster to create content, so more versions reach the field, and without approval windows and automatic expiry on rep devices, old files stay in circulation.

Does offline access still matter for sales teams in 2027?

Yes. Hospitals, operating rooms, manufacturing plants, trade shows and secure customer sites still have weak or blocked connections. Field reps need approved content stored on their devices so they can present without a signal, with updates and usage data syncing when they reconnect.

What should buyers ask after the Seismic and Highspot merger?

Buyers renewing Seismic or Highspot in 2027 should ask which product the combined roadmap is being built on, how pricing and support will change at renewal, and what any migration between the two products would involve. Seismic completed the merger on August 18, 2026.

How can marketing prove which sales content works?

Marketing can prove which sales content works by tracking what reps actually present, page by page and for how long, rather than counting downloads. Linking that presentation data to CRM meeting records shows which assets appear in deals and which go unused.

How long does it take to roll out a new sales enablement platform?

Rollout time depends on the platform. Some enterprise suites take months and a paid implementation project. vablet can be live in a day if needed, and most teams are fully rolled out within weeks with no implementation fee.

Start the 2027 plan with one afternoon

Pick three reps, three devices and your three most important decks. Turn off the network and see what happens. Then open their last five CRM meetings. What you find will tell you where to put the 2027 budget.
